President Donald Trump and Elon Musk reignited their public feud over the weekend as the Senate pushed forward on what Trump has labeled the “Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping reconciliation measure aimed at economic reform and tax relief, as reported by The Western Journal.
The renewed clash between the commander-in-chief and the billionaire tech mogul unfolded on social media, while lawmakers continued voting on amendments in an all-night session intended to advance the legislation before the July 4 deadline.

The dispute began after Musk posted several critical messages on X, targeting the bill’s spending provisions.

He claimed the measure would drive the national debt up by $5 trillion and sarcastically referred to the U.S. as being governed by the “PORKY PIG PARTY.” He also floated the idea of forming a new political party if the Republican Party did not commit to serious fiscal discipline.
“It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country — the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” Musk posted.

Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 30, 2025
Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?

President Trump responded to Musk's remarks with a pointed post on Truth Social, suggesting that Musk's complaints stemmed from provisions in the bill that roll back electric vehicle mandates.
“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate,” Trump wrote. “It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one.”

Trump also criticized the extent of federal subsidies Musk’s companies have received.

“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump stated.
“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”

The back-and-forth came as senators worked through a marathon voting session on the bill, which is expected to reach President Trump’s desk by Independence Day.
Trump has framed the legislation as central to his economic recovery agenda, highlighting its tax benefits for working Americans, elimination of EV mandates, and streamlining of federal spending priorities.
The bill has become a lightning rod in Washington, drawing praise from Republican leadership while stirring debate among more libertarian voices concerned about spending.

Musk, known for his maverick public commentary and shifting political affiliations, has not formally announced any plans for a third party but has increasingly criticized both major parties in recent months.
Despite prior moments of public alignment — including Musk’s past endorsement of Trump — the two have frequently clashed over government funding, regulatory policies, and national priorities.
Their latest exchange underscores growing tensions within the conservative movement as it balances pro-business goals with anti-subsidy sentiments.
While the bill remains on track for passage, the public spat between Trump and Musk has added an unexpected twist to the legislative push, drawing widespread media attention away from the policy content of the bill and toward the personalities shaping its narrative.

This is a childish fight.
Musk worked hard and took risks identifying many billions in waste. He expected action on it. He did not do it to waste time Trump has not pushed cuts. On policy, Musk won this debate.
Unlike in some businesses, instant gratification in government is a zero-chance option. Musk’s position on H1B makes him absolutely suspect. Musk has to be smart enough to realize this, so we just have to assume he is being an ass at for some other reason. Bet cash money it’s ego.
I do agree. This is a childish fight. I very much appreciate everything Musk has done with DOGE and everything he did during the campaign to get Trump elected. I so think they made a great team. But, you know, big money and big egos. However, if I had to choose between billionaires, I’m going with the billionaire that helps my wallet the most and that would be Trump with the tax cuts, and bringing jobs back to the U.S. I also wonder whether or not Musk understands that this is a big picture scenario with tariffs, jobs, the Big Beautiful Bill, etc. I do not think Trump has forgotten about spending cuts. I think that will come later in separate legislation. I also think you have to spend money to make money and that in the big picture scenario there will be much more money coming in to offset the rise in spending included in the Big Beautiful Bill. At least that’s what I’m praying for. This bill MUST pass or all of us taxpayers are done for. The working class people are struggling now. If our taxes increase by 65% there will be alot more homeless people. God please bless America and God bless Donald J. Trump.
Dear Elon,
Don’t try to make us choose between you and Trump. MAGA will, with good reason, always choose Trump.
-Everybody
I knew when this partnership started that it would not end well. Two men with big egos always clash.
The entire Electric Vehicle Industry is based on huge Govt Subsidies – right across the planet.
Everything that evolves on “Free” energy – is most definitely not FREE – in fact without Govt Subsidies – they would be at least 40+% more expensive at minimum.
Elon Musk already knew this – so why did he support a Political Party that also Knew this? – and was not going to support it.
Elon has the luxury of being able to take a stand on USA debt (without actually having a Political solution)
Trump does not have this choice at present.
