The renewed clash between the commander-in-chief and the billionaire tech mogul unfolded on social media, while lawmakers continued voting on amendments in an all-night session intended to advance the legislation before the July 4 deadline.

The dispute began after Musk posted several critical messages on X, targeting the bill’s spending provisions.
He claimed the measure would drive the national debt up by $5 trillion and sarcastically referred to the U.S. as being governed by the “PORKY PIG PARTY.” He also floated the idea of forming a new political party if the Republican Party did not commit to serious fiscal discipline.

President Trump responded to Musk’s remarks with a pointed post on Truth Social, suggesting that Musk’s complaints stemmed from provisions in the bill that roll back electric vehicle mandates.
“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate,” Trump wrote. “It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one.”
Trump also criticized the extent of federal subsidies Musk’s companies have received.

“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump stated.
“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
