Joe Biden announced via X (Twitter) that he will address the nation at 8 p.m. Wednesday regarding his decision to abandon his campaign for a second term in light of concerns about his mental acuity, following scrutiny from fellow Democrats.

Joe Biden has been secluded since last Wednesday, recovering from a bout of COVID-19 at his Delaware vacation home, and is anticipated to return to the White House on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite the calls from Democrats to step down, Biden had initially sworn to stay the course, only to give in a few days before being virtually nominated by party delegates.

In response, Biden delivered a speakerphone call to his campaign office on Monday, reassuring his supporters that the switch to Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee would not alter their priorities. "The name has changed at the top of the ticket, but the mission hasn't changed at all," Biden said. Furthermore, he pledged that he would continue to work for the American public as both a sitting president, pushing legislation, and as a campaigner alongside Harris.
