Andrew James McGann, the man accused of murdering a married couple in front of their young children at Devil’s Den State Park, was arrested on July 30 while receiving a haircut at Lupita’s Beauty Salon in Springdale, Arkansas.

As The New York Post reported, the arrest occurred five days after the July 26 murders of Clinton David Brink and Cristen Amanda Brink during a family hike.

McGann, 28, entered the salon shortly before 5 p.m. According to hairstylist Adriana Ruiz Avalos, who was working that day, McGann’s appearance immediately made her uneasy.

“As soon as I saw him, as I was telling him to come into my chair, I had an eerie feeling about him. He looked soulless. He didn’t look right.”

Avalos said she had never seen McGann before. She noted his hair and scalp were in poor condition, calling it “very dry and matted.” His eyes, she added, were “very sunken.”

According to Avalos, McGann asked her not to cut the top of his hair, explaining that he wanted to keep his eyes covered. At the time, McGann had been evading law enforcement for several days.

Police identified McGann at the salon after spotting his vehicle, a black 2022 Kia Stinger, parked outside. As plainclothes detectives entered the shop, McGann reportedly kept his head down.

Avalos said he remained mostly silent until one detective remarked, “I believe it’s your car.” Surveillance footage shows McGann being arrested while still wearing a barber’s cape.

Authorities say McGann ambushed the Brink family while they were hiking in Devil’s Den State Park. Clinton Brink reportedly fought the attacker to allow his wife to flee with their daughters, ages 7 and 9.

Cristen Brink then returned to assist her husband. Both were killed during the encounter. Their daughters survived and provided investigators with a detailed description of the suspect.

According to police, DNA evidence found at the scene matched McGann. He was charged with two counts of capital murder and is being held without bond at the Washington County jail.

Prosecutors said he allegedly confessed but is expected to plead not guilty. If convicted, McGann could face the death penalty.

Avalos said the arrest has weighed heavily on her. “I’m saddened because two little girls lost their parents,” she said. “It’s a soulless act by Andrew. It’s unimaginable.”
