President Donald Trump on Tuesday toured the newly opened Alligator Alcatraz detention facility in the Florida Everglades and took the opportunity to criticize former President Joe Biden, suggesting he was the driving force behind the criminal prosecutions launched against him, as reported by The New York Post.

“Biden wanted me in here, OK?” Trump said while standing inside one of the facility’s large white tents, surrounded by chain-link enclosures used to house detainees.

“It didn’t work out that way, but he wanted me in here, that son of a bitch.”

Trump was joined on the tour by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The visit comes months after Trump became the first former president in U.S. history to face criminal charges. Four separate cases were filed during his 2024 campaign against Biden, which Trump and many of his allies have repeatedly described as politically motivated.

The charges included a New York state case involving 34 felony counts related to business records and a 2016 payment arrangement, a federal case in Florida concerning handling of classified documents, another federal case in Washington, D.C. over the 2020 election, and a state-level election case in Georgia.

Only the New York case proceeded to trial before the November 2024 election. Trump was convicted in May 2024 on all counts but was not sentenced. His win over then-Vice President Kamala Harris on November 5 effectively stalled all remaining prosecutions.

The Manhattan case, brought by District Attorney Alvin Bragg, has been sharply criticized by Trump, who maintains that it was coordinated with Biden’s team.

Bragg, a Democrat, has denied any political motivation, as has Biden, who dropped out of the 2024 race last July amid growing concerns over his mental fitness.

“Biden wanted this — he wanted me locked up. But we beat them,” Trump said during the visit.

The Alligator Alcatraz facility is a newly constructed immigration detention site operated by the Department of Homeland Security.

It is located deep in the Everglades and is intended to house individuals who have entered the country illegally or who are awaiting deportation proceedings.

The Biden campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding Trump’s statements.
