The gender eligibility test that triggered Imane Khelif’s disqualification in 2023 also entangled Lin, sparking renewed turmoil during Khelif’s bout against Italian Angela Carini, which ended in a mere 46 seconds as Carini threw in the towel.

Despite the uproar, the International Olympic Committee, now overseeing the boxing competition, has stood by its green light for both fighters, claiming that neither athlete is male and defending the decision based on Lin’s documented female birth and medical history.
