In the latest Olympic bout of gender controversy, Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, previously ousted from the 2023 World Championships due to a gender eligibility test, made it into the quarterfinals [1] of the division with a decisive victory over Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova.

As the top seed in the featherweight division, Lin clinched a unanimous decision, dominating the match from start to finish.

The gender eligibility test that triggered Imane Khelif’s disqualification in 2023 also entangled Lin [7], sparking renewed turmoil during Khelif’s bout against Italian Angela Carini, which ended in a mere 46 seconds as Carini threw in the towel.

Despite the uproar, the International Olympic Committee, now overseeing the boxing competition, has stood by [10] its green light for both fighters, claiming that neither athlete is male and defending the decision based on Lin’s documented female birth and medical history.
