House Republicans voted to condemn ‘Border Czar,’ Vice President Kamala Harris over her handling of the U.S. southern border, making it the first legislation directly targeting Harris since her designation as the Democratic 2024 presumptive nominee.
Six Democrats joined all Republicans in passing the measure, resulting in a 220-196 vote.

The Democratic lawmakers who supported the resolution are Reps. Jared Golden, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Mary Peltola, Henry Cuellar, Don Davis, and Yadira Caraveo.
Republicans have consistently criticized Harris for her performance as “border czar” after being tasked by Joe Biden to address the root causes of illegal immigration in 2021.
This resolution has become a focal point for GOP critiques of Harris as she prepares for a potential 2024 showdown with former President Trump.
However, the six Democratic representatives voting against Harris serve as significant disapproval from within her own party, despite other Democrat lawmakers endorsing her.

During the House debate, House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik accused Harris of overseeing policies that led to what she described as the worst border crisis in American history.
House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green also criticized Harris, saying her job to address the crisis could have been resolved by looking at herself.
Democrats pushed back against the resolution, suggesting it was politically motivated.
Left-wing lawmakers argued that Harris’s focus was on addressing the root causes of migration, not managing border security operations.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries highlighted that the term “border czar” was a creation of Republicans.
