A dramatic video released on Tuesday depicted the pursuit of a stolen Sacramento Fire battalion chief’s truck through city streets. The chase, involving a California Highway Patrol (CHP) helicopter and several ground units, concluded when officers deployed spike strips and surrounded the stolen vehicle.
The city-owned F-150 pickup truck was stolen on the evening of May 19 from Sacramento Fire Department Station 12. CHP’s Valley Division Air Operations helicopter joined the pursuit after the vehicle was spotted near 30th and R streets, providing crucial footage of the high-speed chase.
The stolen truck was finally disabled around 9:43 p.m. Video footage shows at least a dozen police vehicles barricading the suspect inside. Officers then used less lethal pepper balls to force the man to exit the vehicle, according to the Police Department.
