In a recent incident that unfolded at a gas station in southeast Austin, body camera footage has been released, shedding light on the events that transpired leading up to Austin police officers shooting an armed man who had barricaded himself in the establishment and created Molotov cocktails.

The individual responsible for discharging the department-issued firearm during the confrontation has been identified as Nichols, a seasoned officer with 16 years of service within the department. As per APD protocol, Nichols has been put on administrative leave following the incident.

Contrary to earlier reports, Fabian was not directly involved in the shooting and was not classified as a "subject officer." Nonetheless, his body camera footage was made public by the police to provide insight into the chronological sequence of events surrounding the incident.

According to reports from a briefing held on May 21, law enforcement officers had been tracking a stolen vehicle which eventually pulled into the gas station premises. The suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Alfonso Gonzales, engaged in a series of aggressive actions, including firing at officers, dousing the counter with lighter fluid, and issuing suicidal threats. Gonzales also informed police that he was aware of the presence of another individual—an employee—inside the gas station.
