A traffic stop involving a man dressed as Santa Claus and a woman dressed as Mrs. Claus drew widespread attention after the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio shared body-worn camera footage of the encounter from Dec. 20.

The video, posted by the sheriff’s office on social media, shows a deputy stopping a vehicle for speeding in Fulton County during the evening hours.

The post’s caption framed the incident in a lighthearted way.

“Ho ho hold on!” the caption reads.

“Santa and Mrs Claus were spotted flying a little too fast through Fulton County.

“No coal was issued — just a friendly reminder that even sleighs need to slow down. Christmas is still on schedule! Stay safe and happy holidays.”

The driver, dressed in a full Santa Claus outfit, informs the deputy that he has a concealed carry weapon, prompting the deputy to laugh at the situation.

During the stop, the deputy explains the reason for pulling the vehicle over, noting that the area has a posted speed limit of 55 miles per hour.

He tells the driver that the limit is in place because of safety concerns, including wildlife and other motorists entering the roadway.

The deputy explains that there are “a lot of deer” in the area and that people may pull onto the road unexpectedly, adding that reaction time would be reduced at higher speeds.

He then asks the driver to provide his license and step out of the vehicle.

As the encounter continues, the deputy makes a joking remark while acknowledging the unusual nature of the stop.

“This is the video of the night! There goes my presents!” the deputy says.

The stop remains cordial throughout, with no indication of further enforcement action.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver was not issued a citation.

Instead, the deputy issued a verbal warning and allowed the pair to continue on their way.

The sheriff’s office said the encounter ended on a positive note, with the man dressed as Santa posing for a photograph with the deputy before leaving the scene.

The post emphasized that no ticket was written and that the stop was intended as a reminder about safe driving.

Following the release of the video, social media users reacted with humor in the comments section, particularly on Facebook. Several commenters joked about the implications of Santa being delayed during the holiday season.

“If my presents are late getting here, I blame Deputy Grinch,” one commenter wrote.

Another woman shared a story about how her children reacted after seeing the video.

“I showed my kids this and my daughter goes, ‘Mum, is Santa still gonna bring us presents?’” she wrote.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, he didn’t go to jail’.”

She added that her daughter then asked what would happen if Santa had been arrested, and she told her that the elves would deliver the presents in that case.

Other commenters suggested the deputy make amends with Santa Claus after the stop, encouraging him to leave extra cookies out for Santa following the encounter.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office did not identify the individuals involved in the stop, and no additional enforcement actions were reported.

The office described the incident as a routine traffic stop that happened to feature holiday costumes, emphasizing the importance of following traffic laws regardless of the time of year.

The department’s social media post concluded by reminding drivers to remain cautious on the roads during the holiday season, particularly in rural areas where wildlife and changing road conditions can increase the risk of accidents.

The video has since been shared widely, drawing attention both for its seasonal timing and for the deputy’s lighthearted response during an otherwise routine enforcement stop.
