Two Delta Connection aircraft operated by Endeavor Air collided Wednesday night at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, damaging both planes and forcing emergency response teams onto the tarmac, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. as one plane was preparing to depart for Roanoke, Virginia, and another had just arrived from Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to Delta, the departing jet was carrying 32 people when its wing struck the fuselage of the arriving plane, which had 61 passengers onboard.

A Delta pilot could be heard in air traffic control audio reporting, “Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit. We have damage to our windscreen and… some of our screens in here.”

Photos taken after the collision showed a shattered windshield, damage to the nose of one aircraft, and a large portion of the other jet’s wing torn away. Emergency vehicles rushed to the scene as crews secured the planes.

Passengers described the impact as sudden and jarring. Joey Annunziato, a CBS News producer on the flight from Charlotte, recorded a video moments after the crash.

“We got absolutely smashed by another Delta flight. I don’t know if we hit them or they hit us, but it was super jarring,” he said. He added that everyone on board was thrown forward in their seats and “shocked at what happened.”

Another passenger, William Lusk, told ABC News his plane suddenly “stopped, jerked, and jumped to the right” after landing. “Everyone went dead silent. And as everyone went dead silent, the pilot calmly came on and said, ‘Hey, we’ve been in a crash, everyone remain calm.’”

While no passengers were hurt, officials confirmed a flight attendant sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said LaGuardia operations continued without disruption.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. The incident came within the first 24 hours of the ongoing government shutdown, which has raised concerns about staffing shortages in federal agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration.

Airlines previously warned that FAA controllers working without pay could face strain, though it is not clear whether staffing played a role in Wednesday’s mishap.

Delta said it is cooperating fully with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.

“Delta teams at our New York-LaGuardia hub are working to ensure our customers are taken care of after two Delta Connection aircraft operated by Endeavor Air were involved in a low-speed collision during taxi,” the airline said in a statement.

“Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as the safety of our customers and people comes before all else. We apologize to our customers for the experience.”
