Residents in Lucas Valley, a community in the Bay Area of California, are on alert after a series of squirrel attacks left multiple people injured, with at least two requiring emergency medical treatment, as reported by The New York Post.
According to reports from ABC7, the animal has attacked at least five people over the past week, lunging at unsuspecting neighbors, clawing, and biting before retreating. Victims described the encounters as sudden and violent.
One resident, Isabel Campoy, said she was targeted while walking near her home.
In Florida they wrestle alligators for fun while in California they're afraid of squirrels 😂🤣https://t.co/SbqR55zy23

Another victim, 78-year-old Joan Heblack, said she was attacked while out for her morning walk. “It clamped onto my leg. The tail was flying up here,” Heblack said, gesturing to her chest. “I was like, ‘Get it off me, get off me!’ It came out of nowhere. I didn’t see him running up to me at all.”
Both women received medical care following the incidents, and neighbors have since circulated flyers warning the community about the animal. The notice reads in bold letters: “Attack squirrel beware!!!!!!!! This is not a joke.”

Experts believe the squirrel may have become aggressive due to food scarcity or territorial behavior.
Vanessa Potter of WildCare in San Rafael said, “They will look for food. If they don’t get it, there can be frustrations. They can be territorial of their space. If they associate people with food, they’re not afraid of them.”

The animal, described by residents as golden-colored, has not been spotted for several days. Neighbors hope the absence means the danger has passed, though the attacks have left the community shaken.
Authorities have not confirmed whether animal control is actively searching for the squirrel, but residents remain wary. “It was very scary,” Heblack said, summarizing the fear that has swept through the neighborhood.
The unusual string of attacks highlights how close interactions between wildlife and suburban communities can quickly become dangerous when animals lose fear of humans.

Has anyone thought to check for rabies???
Squirrels are simply Tree Rats. They need treating accordingly – usually a simple .410 ( or larger if you managed to smuggle one into Kalifornistan without the Thought Police getting at you )
Maybe the Animal Brigade are too frightened of such a large wild beast ! 😉 🙂 🙂 🙂
Really You Folks – make me laugh ! There are at least a dozen “Wild Squirrels” thieving the bird seed in my garden every day – they are frightened of me & I intend to keep it that way for both our sakes !
