Former Vice President Kamala Harris gave her first televised interview since losing the 2024 presidential election to President Donald Trump, speaking Monday night with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, as reported by Fox News.
The conversation came just one day before the release of her new book, 107 Days, which recounts her time as the Democratic presidential nominee following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
Harris, 60, used the sit-down to sharply criticize Trump, calling him a “tyrant” while accusing corporate leaders of failing to resist his influence.

“I worked closely with the private sector over many years, and I always believed that if push came to shove, those titans of industry would be guardrails for our democracy, for the importance of sustaining democratic institutions,” Harris said.
“And one by one by one, they have been silent. They have been, you know, yes, I use the word feckless.”
The former vice president argued that many executives had the resources to speak out but chose not to. “The idea that somehow if they were to speak up, they’d lose their yacht or their house in the Hamptons—it’s ridiculous,” Harris said.
She went on to claim that “capitalism actually thrives in a democracy much more than it does under an authoritarian regime.”

Harris acknowledged the risks involved in criticizing the Trump administration, noting that some individuals and companies who opposed the president faced consequences.
Still, she insisted that the private sector had a duty to resist what she characterized as Trump’s misuse of government power.
“At some point, they’ve got to stand up for the sake of the people who rely on all of these institutions to have integrity and to at some point be the guardrails against a tyrant who is using the federal government to execute his whim and fancy because of a fragile ego,” Harris said.
The interview marked Harris’s return to the national spotlight following her election defeat. Her upcoming book, set for release Tuesday, covers the 107 days between Biden’s departure from the Democratic ticket and her loss to Trump in November 2024.
