Griner addressed the incident for the first time during a brief exchange with a reporter from OutKick following Sunday’s matchup between the Atlanta Dream and the Washington Mystics.

The controversy centers around footage that appeared to show Griner mouthing the phrase “f**king white girl” after fouling out of a game against the Fever.

“I asked Brittney Griner what she said after fouling out against the Indiana Fever three weeks ago (since no one else has asked since then), and she said she ‘can’t remember,’” OutKick reporter Dan Zaksheske posted on X, along with video of the exchange.

“I offered to show her the viral clip to jog her memory, but she said that ‘wouldn’t help.’”

Following the game, Zaksheske pressed further, asking Griner directly if it was possible she had used the phrase “f**king white girl.”

Griner responded, “I know it wasn’t that because I wouldn’t use that type of language.”

Though the video clip went viral and sparked widespread speculation, Griner’s comments Sunday mark the first time she has publicly addressed the matter. Her denial comes three weeks after the footage surfaced.

The delay in questioning and response has drawn criticism toward sports media outlets, which had not raised the issue in any postgame press conferences or interviews until OutKick approached the player directly.

The game in question took place in late May, during which Griner fouled out and appeared visibly frustrated as she left the court.

The specific moment captured on video showed her turning away from the court and mouthing an inaudible phrase, which many interpreted as a racial remark aimed at Clark.
