As you’re probably aware, Kamala Harris sat down for a confrontational interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes on Monday, October 7 – and it didn’t go great for her.

While not quite a hostile media outlet faced by running mate Tim Walz a day prior on Fox News, the Vice President’s appearance marked a change from the media avoidance strategy her campaign has implemented for much of the summer. With Donald Trump appearing on outlets left, right, and center, Harris has been left with little other choice than to face the media.

Perhaps the internal polling is just that bad that they’ve had no choice but to abandon their basement strategy.

Her interview on 60 Minutes was perhaps an indication as to why the Democrat has sought to avoid scrutiny for so long. At one point, Harris thrice refused to answer a question on whether her administration’s relaxed border policies, which has led to the worst border crisis in U.S. history, were a mistake.

Another key sticking point against Harris’ campaign has been her different rhetoric. A once ardent opponent to fracking has become more sheepish on the issue now she is campaigning outside of California. Her response to accusations of flip-flopping were not what one would call robust.

Arguably the most controversial moment of the interview was shared on social media. Two versions of Harris’ response to a question on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were shared widely on social media, fueling questions as to why CBS had aired a more favorable response by the Vice President.

It’s safe to say that the splicing of Harris’ interview was not well-received on social media.

Then again, it was refreshing to see the Vice President directly challenged on important issues.
