In an incident that shocked the community of Lowell, Indiana, 26-year-old Dimas Gabriel Yanez was arrested after allegedly stabbing a teenage girl during her brother’s baseball game.

The arrest followed an intense manhunt that culminated on Sunday, with Yanez being apprehended as he ran through a local cornfield.

Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. detailed the circumstances leading to Yanez's capture on his official Facebook page, noting that the suspect was involved in a "random" attack on Saturday.

Fortunately, the young girl was treated at a hospital and has since been discharged.

Authorities were quick to identify Yanez as a suspect, describing him as "armed and dangerous" and immediately initiating a search. The manhunt escalated on Sunday when Yanez was spotted altering his appearance, apparently cutting his hair in an effort to evade capture. Sheriff Martinez's post included photos showing Yanez’s significantly shortened hair as he was taken into custody.

The sheriff also revealed that Yanez, originally deported to Honduras in 2018, had re-entered the U.S. illegally and is suspected of engaging in criminal activities across the country since his return.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has been notified of his arrest, signaling potential further investigations into his activities and immigration status.

The man had been spotted in the southern part of Lake County earlier in the day. He had been running through a cornfield in an area near 120th & Iowa when a police officer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department successfully apprehended him.

26-year-old Dimas Gabriel Yanez is now in custody at the Lake County Jail. It’s believed he was in the process of cutting his hair to change his appearance just before he was arrested. Investigators have learned Yanez had been deported to Honduras in 2018 and may have been engaged in criminal activity across the United States since returning to the country illegally. The US Department of Homeland Security has been notified of his arrest today.
