A 19-year-old with suspected gang affiliations was shot and killed by deputies inside an Orlando 7-Eleven on the afternoon of July 12, according to Orange County Sheriff John Mina.
The incident took place shortly after noon at a gas station located at 4011 West Oak Ridge Road. The Orange County Sheriff’s Gang Enforcement Unit had been conducting surveillance on a suspected "gang house" in the area when they observed a man, later identified as Tristan James Robert Mayberry, leaving the location on a scooter.
Mayberry was reportedly carrying a gun as he headed toward the 7-Eleven.
Deputies were alerted and moved in to make contact with Mayberry at the gas station.

Inside the 7-Eleven, deputies attempted to engage with Mayberry, but according to Sheriff Mina, he turned away from them. Upon spotting another deputy, Mayberry allegedly reached for his handgun, a Glock with an extended magazine.
Despite deputies ordering him to stop at least four times, Mayberry reportedly ignored their commands. At this point, one of the deputies fired at the suspect, causing him to fall. A brief struggle over the gun ensued, and Mayberry was shot again.
Deputies attempted to provide first aid to Mayberry, but he succumbed to his injuries, Sheriff Mina confirmed.

"Any time a subject carries a gun into a 7-Eleven and then doesn't follow the instructions of law enforcement, there's always a risk," Sheriff Mina stated during a media briefing on Friday afternoon. "I commend our deputies. They're out there doing their job, trying to combat violent crime, trying to get guns off the streets. It's unfortunate the person didn't listen to law enforcement."
Sheriff Mina noted that it does not appear Mayberry fired his weapon during the incident.
No deputies were injured, and the gun was recovered at the scene.
