Republican Congressman Eli Crane from Arizona visited the site of the Trump rally shooting in Butler, PA, and has raised questions about how the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, managed to evade the Secret Service.
As an ex-Navy SEAL sniper, Crane has challenged the Secret Service's explanation that the sloped roof made it difficult to have personnel stationed there and has inquired about the absence of a sniper on a nearby water tower with a clear view of the roof where Crooks positioned himself.
I’m on the roof of the building in Butler, PA where shots were fired in an attempt to assassinate President Trump.
As a former Navy SEAL sniper, it was clear to me that many security measures were dropped making Pres. Trump extremely vulnerable. Many questions still remain. pic.twitter.com/p2EhBTFg1M — Rep. Eli Crane (@RepEliCrane) July 22, 2024
Crane also examined the second-floor window where Secret Service agents were purportedly keeping watch and ventured into the room to demonstrate the view from inside while questioning how Crooks went undetected while ascending to the roof.
This video was taken from one of the windows the Secret Service had access to, overlooking the entire roof.
As you can see, they had complete coverage. Makes you wonder how on earth they allowed the shooter to access the roof, let alone crawl up it & fire several shots. pic.twitter.com/C1GTUAuPEa — Rep. Eli Crane (@RepEliCrane) July 22, 2024
Despite rally attendees noticing Crooks on the roof and attempting to alert law enforcement, he was able to fire several shots at Trump.

The head of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, faced tough questioning on Capitol Hill, and it's clear that Crane will have further inquiries for her following his visit to Butler.
JUST IN: Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle can't answer almost all of Rep. James Comer's questions.
This woman is way more incompetent than I thought. Attendees were heard groaning in the background as Cheatle gaslit the American people. Comer cornered Cheatle when he asked… pic.twitter.com/SNAV2n4TwC — Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) July 22, 2024
