A 43-year-old man, identified as Jose Angel Mendoza of Chino, died in an officer-involved shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 12800 block of 10th Street on June 20.

The Chino Police Department reported that the incident occurred at around 10:18 p.m.

The police were initially called to the apartment complex in response to a domestic violence incident.

Upon arrival, officers were informed by an individual in the parking lot that the man involved in the incident was armed with a knife.

When officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, the man brandished a knife and refused to comply with police orders.

Subsequently, the man advanced on an officer with the knife raised above his head, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

Despite life-saving efforts by the officers and paramedics from the Chino Valley Fire District, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
