A technical issue with Microsoft caused a widespread outage that disrupted media outlets, banks, airlines, and companies around the world on Friday.
The MTA reported that its customer information systems were “temporarily offline” due to the technical outage. However, train and bus services in NY were still up and running, and LIRR service was not affected, although the arrival information, platform signs, and station announcements were taken offline.

Here's What They're Not Telling You About Your Retirement
While airlines in Australia reported that telecommunications providers, banks, as well as media broadcasters, were disrupted as they lost access to computer systems, airlines in Europe, Asia, and the US also reported problems. Meanwhile, banks and hospitals in Israel were hit hard by the outage.
Ryanair, TransPennine Express, Govia Thameslink Railway, and Sky News are among those affected in the UK, while the FAA in the US grounded airlines such as American, United, and Delta. Hong Kong’s Airport Authority announced that some airlines were affected at the city's airport and had switched to manual check-in.
Several airports across Europe, including Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, also reported that the outage had a “major impact” on flights to and from the major airports.
In South Africa, at least one major bank suffered “nationwide service disruptions” as users complained that they were unable to make payments using their bank cards at gas stations or grocery stores.

Reports also indicated that banks and hospitals in Britain and Germany were experiencing technical difficulties.
In conclusion, the widespread Microsoft outage caused a significant disruption to companies across the world. Australia airlines, media broadcasters, telecommunications providers, and banks were severely hit, as were airlines in Europe, including the UK, and Asia. Banks and hospitals in Israel, Britain, and Germany also suffered disruption due to the outage.
It appears that nobody knows the exact reason for the outage, but Microsoft 365 announced on X that the company was “observing a positive trend in service availability,” and that progress is being made to remedy the disruption.

As if we needed another reason to keep as much isolated from MS as possible.
Software the requires an internet connection should not exist.
Software that requires an internet connection to function should not be allowed to exist.
That America’s CEOs were that insanely stupid to make their entire organization dependent on MS software and “the cloud”, rather than their own secured and isolated networks should nearly an act of treason against shareholders for their short term personal gain.
