Residents in Nashville, a small southern Illinois town, were advised to evacuate immediately on Tuesday due to an impending dam failure.

Emergency officials from Washington County alerted locals, asking them to immediately leave their homes to avoid the consequences of the catastrophic situation.

Nashville residents were told that they could seek shelter at a location on West Walnut Street in the city, where the Red Cross was providing assistance.

The Washington County Emergency Management Agency alerted residents through a Facebook post that read, "Attention The Failure of the Nashville dam is imminent! Please evacuate your home at this time. If you are in the grey box, you need to evacuate now!"

 

However, the cause of the dam failure and the estimated number of affected homes remained unknown at the time of the evacuation order.
