An officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) in Tennessee was injured on Monday during an attempt to arrest one of the city’s "Most Wanted" fugitives. Detective Carlos Diaz was shot in the leg while trying to apprehend 31-year-old Miqueal Williams, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for first-degree murder, WKRN reported.

Williams, recently added to the MNPD’s "Top 10 Most Wanted" list after being indicted by a grand jury, is suspected of the March shooting death of 32-year-old Samuel L. Edwards Jr. Earlier on Monday, police received information about Williams’ possible location at an apartment complex where they contacted him.

As Williams entered a car with a woman, police approached the vehicle and instructed the woman to move away. At that moment, Williams exited the vehicle armed with a semi-automatic pistol and began shooting. Officers returned fire, resulting in Diaz being shot in the leg and Williams being wounded in the hip. Both were transported to a local hospital and are in non-critical condition.

The MNPD stated that the investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time. Metro Police released body camera footage from Diaz and Detective Joseph Gonzales, who also fired shots. The video includes real-time footage, slowed down to show the rapid exchange of gunfire. Notably, Diaz’s body camera had not started recording audio during the incident.

As of 7 p.m. on Monday, Diaz was released from the hospital, according to an MNPD social media post.
