Officer Cole Gille responded to a domestic disturbance call and found a stabbing victim with 40 stab wounds needing assistance.
At the scene, Officer Gille and other officers found two children and the suspect, Gregory Tracy. The Rock County District Attorney's office stated that police had to use deadly force to prevent Tracy from harming the children when he did not cooperate.

Chief of Police Andre Sayles affirmed that Officer Gille followed department policies and procedures. The investigation concluded that Officer Gille acted to protect lives in imminent danger and made a split-second decision in a volatile situation.
The victim of the attack is currently recovering.
