Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) announced her plans to file articles of impeachment following the Supreme Court's ruling on presidential immunity.

"The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control," she wrote on X. "Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture. I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return."

 

In a partial victory for Donald Trump, the Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 vote that presidents have absolute immunity for "official acts" taken while president. Justice Sonia Sotomayor's dissenting opinion has led critics to sound alarms over the ruling, with MSNBC legal analyst Neal Katyal referring to it as a "blueprint for how to end the rule of law."

Ocasio-Cortez has been a vocal critic of the Supreme Court in recent years and has accused Justice Clarence Thomas of being guilty of "comical" corruption during a House Oversight hearing last month. She also suggested impeaching Supreme Court Justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, accusing them of lying about their stances on abortion during their confirmations.
