LAREDO, Tex. - The Texas Department of Public Safety has released new information regarding two recent pursuits in the city, shedding light on the world of human smuggling.
The first incident unfolded on Tuesday evening after Border Patrol alerted DPS troopers about a truck tractor suspected of being involved in human smuggling activities. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver fled and eventually crashed into a creek near Cheyenne Park. While three individuals were successfully apprehended, the driver managed to evade capture.

Sergeant Erick Estrada from the Texas Department of Public Safety explained, "They use to always go back to the locations where they first pick up. They usually choose these locations because usually the water is very shallow, and it’s a very common route they use to cross people. They already know the location, so during our vehicle pursuits, they will often always go back to the same location where they picked up the people and they will swim back."
DPS officials further noted that in these instances, the drivers involved tend to remain on the US side, rather than attempting to flee into Mexico.
