Charlotte, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a death in the 4100 block of Wilkinson Boulevard in the Freedom Division.

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, officers responded to an Assist MEDIC call in the 4100 block of Wilkinson Boulevard where they found an 8-year-old female in critical condition inside a vehicle. She was taken to the hospital and later pronounced deceased.

Homicide Unit detectives conducted an investigation at the scene, and Crime Scene Search collected physical evidence. CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD, and MEDIC provided assistance.

The investigation revealed that the victim was left in a vehicle in hot weather conditions and suffered a medical emergency.
The victim's mother, Ashlee Stallings, 36, has been arrested and charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and Child Abuse by Willful Act Causing Serious Injury. Stallings has been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.
