The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department gave details at a press conference about two officer-involved shootings that occurred this week. Assistant Sheriff Yasenia Yatomi disclosed further information regarding the shootings on June 25 and 26.
On Tuesday, police shot one individual during an armed confrontation in the 2000 block of Valley Drive, close to Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho Drive. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Matthew Tindall, allegedly broke into a residence while armed with a knife. After arriving on the scene, two officers heard yelling for help from the neighboring residence.

Both officers sprinted towards the home where they witnessed three people outside the front door. Tindall was in the doorway fighting with a man while holding a knife. After verbal commands given to Tindall, he dropped his weapon, but then reached for and attempted to retrieve it, prompting Officer Miguel Rodriguez to shoot Tindall.

Rodriguez is a 31-year-old who has served with the department since 2017. He fired a total of five rounds. Tindall is facing charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon against an older person, home invasion with a deadly weapon, home invasion with a deadly weapon against an older person, battery with a deadly weapon, and resisting an officer with a deadly weapon that was not a firearm.
The second shooting transpired on Wednesday in the vicinity of Boulder Highway and Russell Road. According to police, customers at a business were threatened by a man armed with two knives. Several officers arrived at the location and found 62-year-old Robert Kunhart in the parking lot of the business, holding a knife and appearing agitated.
Officer Miguel Rodriguez fired his gun and hit Kunhart, while the others involved utilized mutliple less-lethal options to try to restrain him. Those options were ultimately ineffective and Kunhart continued to walk towards the police.
The officers involved in this incident have been identified as Sergeant Ashley Ravelo, 32, and Officer Johnny Patino, 32. Sergeant Ashley Ravelo fired a single round, and Officer Patino fired a total of five rounds. Kunhart is facing charges of attempted murder on a protected person and resisting a public officer with a weapon that wasn't a firearm.
