A Texas security guard made headlines after quitting his job during a live TV interview following a confrontation with his boss over an assault he suffered while attempting to stop two suspected carjackers. Percy Payne, an employee for Priebe Security stationed at a private underground garage in East Austin, faced a brutal attack when he witnessed two individuals attempting to break into his car.

 

During an interview with Fox 7 Austin, Payne's manager interrupted, insisting that he was not allowed to speak on camera while on duty. The exchange escalated as the supervisor chastised Payne for breaching company policy by speaking to the media in uniform. Despite Payne's attempts to convey the importance of sharing his story, the supervisor blamed him for the assault and demanded that he remove his uniform.

Security footage captured Payne's physical altercation with the suspects, who allegedly broke into the garage through a stuck open door. Following the incident, Payne sought assistance from law enforcement but was initially met with resistance when he reached out to 911. However, after persistence, he received an apology, and an officer arrived to address the situation.

Despite the ordeal, Payne expressed gratitude for the support he received and has since secured a new position with a different security firm. Michael Cargill, the owner of Central Texas Gun Works, was moved by Payne's experience and offered him a job, emphasizing that Payne deserved better treatment.
