A suspect accused of child rape, identified as Cory Alvarez, a 26-year-old Haitian national, has been released on bail from an immigrant shelter in Rockland. Despite the presence of ICE agents seeking to take him into custody for potential deportation, Alvarez managed to evade capture, leaving law enforcement authorities searching for him.

According to Bill Melugin’s sources, the courts disregarded a detainer filed by federal immigration officers, allowing Alvarez to walk free after posting $500 bail. The release has raised concerns among Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz, who had sought to keep Alvarez detained until his trial concludes. However, court papers confirm that Cruz’s motion was denied. Alvarez has also been ordered to wear a GPS monitor to monitor his whereabouts. Currently, it is reported that he is in Brockton as ICE attempts to locate him.

Alvarez is scheduled to appear in court on August 13 and has been instructed to surrender his passport. The charges against him stem from the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl, described by police as disabled. Alvarez has entered a plea of not guilty.

The incident took place at the Comfort Inn on 850 Hingham St. in Rockland, which has been converted into a migrant housing facility operating under state and federal programs, according to prosecutors.

When asked for additional information regarding Alvarez, the Hingham Court clerk’s office directed Inquiries to be submitted via email. In response, they provided court documents indicating that Alvarez had been indicted and that the case had been moved to the superior court level.

Rockland Police were alerted to the incident after receiving a call from a desk clerk at the hotel around 7 p.m. on March 13. The police report states that the girl made a statement to investigators, alleging that she was raped and had asked Alvarez to leave her alone, but he did not stop.
