The officers responded to a call at the Bellevue West complex on Ridgelake Parkway, where they found a 27-year-old person who had been stabbed by his 25-year-old brother. The younger brother was then shot during a confrontation with the officers.
The victim said his brother had held a knife to his neck before he ran from the apartment unit. The police found him down a hill on the roadway before they searched for his brother.

Following this, the suspect rushed down the steps of the apartment building and came at police officers “very quickly with a knife in hand” before one of the officers fired his weapon and killed the suspect, identified by officials as Max Van Sickle.
Metro police have stated that the officers gave warnings to the suspect and waited until he was within just a few feet of them before they fired shots. The older brother has non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, but has since been released and is cooperating with the investigation.
