A man who was allegedly threatening an elderly male with a knife was shot and killed by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department in South Los Angeles when the suspect charged toward them.

According to LAPD's Tony Im, officers responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in the area at 6:30 p.m. The suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Wilver Blanco, was reportedly under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident.

Upon arriving at the 100 block of W. Colden Avenue, officers found Blanco holding a knife in his right hand, standing behind a parked vehicle. The officers deployed behind their respective doors, but Blanco ignored repeated demands to drop his weapon.

Instead, Blanco climbed onto the rear bumper of a nearby car and crouched down before running towards the officers. At this point, the officers opened fire to protect themselves and the nearby community.

Blanco was taken to a local hospital, where he died shortly after. The shooting is currently under investigation by the LAPD.
