President Donald Trump announced Monday that Walmart plans to reduce prices on selected products as part of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration, adding that he hopes other retailers will follow suit.
The announcement comes days after Trump highlighted a Pennsylvania fuel retailer that lowered gasoline prices ahead of the Independence Day holiday, as reported [1] by the Gateway Pundit.
In a statement released Monday, Trump said Walmart informed his administration that it would reduce prices on numerous items, including a nearly 15% reduction on one pound of ground beef.

According to the president, the price reductions are intended to coincide with events celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
Trump described Walmart as “one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America” and said the company agreed to lower prices at the administration’s request.
“Great news! I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices by a lot, at my Administration’s request, to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday. Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products. This is a huge deal for the many millions of Americans who, smartly, shop at Walmart, which is a truly patriotic Company who loves the U.S.A.”
Trump also contrasted current economic conditions with those under former President Joe Biden.
“My Administration is lowering prices that Joe Biden incompetently raised with the worst inflation crisis in history, a total disaster along with the Southern Border, the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and many other failures. Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too, just like egg and Prescription Drug prices, which I am bringing down by historic levels. Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots. Together, we will make America stronger and greater than ever before!”
The announcement followed earlier statements from Trump encouraging retailers to lower prices for consumers. Last week, he warned businesses against price gouging and said retailers should reduce prices.
“The Retailers must quickly react to this statement, and do what they know is right — DROP YOUR PRICE FOR OUR GREAT AMERICAN PEOPLE! There will be no gouging, which is totally illegal,” Trump said.
Trump also called on California officials to reduce the state’s gasoline tax, arguing that consumers were paying unnecessarily high fuel costs.
“Soon the Tax will be higher than the Product itself, and the United States will not stand for it, nor will the People of California, who are being abused by these ridiculous Taxes, and by their own Government,” he said.
Days before Monday’s announcement, Trump highlighted Pennsylvania-based Freedom Fuel Network after the company lowered gasoline prices on July 3.
“This Retailer is taking the lead, and others should follow,” Trump said. “We are proud to celebrate America’s 250th Birthday in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Birthplace of our very special, one-of-a-kind Declaration of Independence, and where I won BIG in the Presidential Election! America has never been stronger than it is now, and Gas Prices will soon be back to the Record Low Prices Americans enjoyed at the pump before our very successful ‘excursion’ in Iran. Happy Birthday, America!”
Earlier Monday, Trump also shared a Bloomberg article discussing Saudi Arabia’s decision to reduce oil prices, writing, “OIL PRICES COMING DOWN.”
The comments came as the United States and Iran continued discussions following a ceasefire agreement reached after U.S. military strikes on Iranian targets and Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to reporters last week, Trump said, “We hit them very hard for three nights, as you know, but we’re getting along very well, so I call it the denuclearization, and it’s all taking place. It’s all going well.”
At another point, Trump said he preferred reaching an agreement with Iran but indicated military options remained available if negotiations failed.
“And it won’t be tough to finish the job. I’d rather make a deal because I don’t want to affect 91 million people,” the president said.
“We can knock down their bridges in one hour. We can knock out their energy supply. All of those big plants that they built, big, beautiful, modern plants. They had a lot of money. They don’t have any money now. We haven’t given them any money. But we can knock out their electricity and power-generating plants in, I would say, a small part of an afternoon. Every plant will be gone, and they know that.”
