Chaos Erupts as BJ’s Wholesale Roof Collapses in New Jersey Storm [WATCH]

A partial roof collapse at a BJ’s Wholesale Club in Ocean Township, New Jersey, sent water rushing into the store Monday morning as severe storms moved through the area, narrowly missing shoppers and prompting a large emergency response, according [1] to The New York Post.

According to the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 11:16 a.m. while customers and employees were inside the warehouse.

Surveillance footage captured the moment part of the roof gave way over the bakery section, releasing a large volume of water that pushed store displays across the floor.

Video from inside the store showed an older man browsing in the bakery area moments before the collapse.

He avoided the falling debris and moved out of the area as water poured into the building and wooden display fixtures shifted across the floor.

Authorities said 27 people were inside the store when the roof partially collapsed.

Two individuals became partially trapped during the incident but were able to free themselves and safely leave the building before emergency crews completed their search.

Officials reported that no injuries resulted from the collapse.

Emergency responders arrived as heavy rain continued to impact Ocean Township and surrounding communities.

Flooding was reported on local streets while first responders worked to secure the store and confirm that everyone inside had been safely evacuated.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office said drones and K-9 teams were deployed to assist in searching the building to ensure no one remained inside following the collapse.

The incident occurred during a period of intense rainfall that affected portions of New Jersey on Monday morning.

The severe weather created hazardous conditions throughout the township while emergency personnel responded to weather-related calls.

BJ’s Wholesale Club did not immediately respond to a request for comment following the incident.

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden praised the coordinated response by emergency personnel after the building was evacuated.

“This incident is another reminder of how quickly severe weather can create dangerous and unpredictable conditions,” Golden said in a statement.

“We commend all first responders who worked with urgency under challenging circumstances. Despite the ongoing flooding and severe weather affecting our communities, all worked seamlessly together to ensure everyone was safely accounted for. Their dedication and teamwork exemplify the very best of public safety.”

Officials have not released information regarding what portion of the roof failed or whether the collapse was directly caused by the heavy rainfall.

The building remained the focus of emergency operations while authorities assessed the structure following the incident.

The dramatic surveillance footage highlighted how quickly conditions changed inside the warehouse, with water rapidly flooding the affected area after the roof gave way.

Despite the extent of the damage inside the store, all 27 occupants were accounted for, and no injuries were reported.

The incident serves as another example of the hazards severe weather can create for businesses and shoppers, particularly during periods of intense rainfall that can place significant stress on commercial buildings and create dangerous conditions with little warning.
