Gwinnett County Police officers responded to the call within minutes and entered the home, where they found four adults suffering from gunshot wounds. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The three children were located unharmed inside the closet. Authorities said the children were later picked up by a family member.
Police have not released information about the children’s relationship to the victims, and their identities have not been disclosed.
Following the discovery, officers launched a search for the suspected gunman. Police said the suspect’s vehicle was still parked in the driveway of the home, leading investigators to believe the individual had fled on foot.
K9 units were deployed, and officers tracked the suspect to a wooded area a short distance from the residence.
