A Detroit high school student was arrested after video circulated online showing her allegedly chasing a classmate through a classroom while wielding what authorities later confirmed was a box cutter, as reported by The New York Post.

According to Detroit police, the incident occurred inside a classroom at Denby High School. Local outlet FOX 2 Detroit reported that officials have not determined what led to the confrontation.

The video begins with a female student wearing a blue beanie and headphones pointing toward another student who is wearing a face mask.

As the masked student approaches, the student in the beanie backs away before suddenly turning and running through the classroom.

Desks are knocked aside as the two students move rapidly through the room, with classmates reacting in alarm.

The student wearing the blue beanie exits the classroom, while the pursuing student approaches the doorway.

At that point, a teacher is seen attempting to intervene by positioning a chair in the doorway to block the student from leaving the room. During the confrontation, an object appearing to be a box cutter falls from the student’s hand.

The video shows the student briefly stopping to retrieve the object before running into the hallway. As she exits, one student can be heard asking, “Is that a pocketknife?”

Several faculty members are then seen running after the student down the hallway and out of view.

In a statement obtained by FOX 2, the school district confirmed that a student brought a box cutter onto campus and attempted to attack another student. The district said no one was injured during the incident.

“There were no injuries associated with the incident,” the statement said.

“The student has been arrested and will not be returning to Denby or another district school. Additional police presence will be at the school tomorrow.”

Fox News Digital also reached out to the school district for comment regarding the incident and any additional disciplinary actions, but no further details were immediately released.

The Detroit Police Department confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been opened and remains ongoing. Police have not released the name or age of the student involved, citing standard juvenile procedures.

The video has circulated widely online, prompting renewed attention on school safety and weapons being brought onto school campuses.

While officials emphasized that no injuries occurred, the footage shows a chaotic scene that unfolded in a classroom filled with students before staff members were able to intervene.

School officials said the student involved will not return to any school within the district. Additional police presence was scheduled at Denby High School the day following the incident as a precaution.

Authorities have not disclosed whether additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
