A mother jumped into the water at a Carnival Cruise Line dock to rescue her 4-year-old daughter after the child slipped over the edge and became trapped between a ship and the pier during a port stop in the Bahamas, according to the cruise line and eyewitness accounts, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident occurred during a stop at Carnival Cruise Line’s private Grand Bahama destination, Celebration Key.

The child “briefly walked away from her mother” and fell off the pier, landing in the narrow space between the dock and the ship, Carnival said in an email statement.

The mother immediately jumped into the water to retrieve her daughter as Carnival employees rushed to the scene to assist.

“Our ship and security team quickly brought them both to safety, and our medical team evaluated them. Both are doing well,” Carnival said.

The rescue was captured on video by a passenger aboard the Carnival Conquest, which was also docked at the island. The TikTok user said she heard screaming outside her room and began recording the scene.

“I’m sitting in my room on the Carnival Conquest, and I heard screaming outside. Apparently, people fell between the dock and the Carnival Sunrise,” the creator wrote, referencing the nearby Carnival Sunrise.

The video shows a crowd gathering near the edge of the pier as onlookers peer into the water. A security guard can be seen pushing the crowd back as crew members moved in to take control of the scene.

Staff members wearing beige and blue coveralls threw life preservers into the water and lowered a ladder to reach the mother and child.

“We got officers coming off the boat now,” the TikTok creator says in the video narration.

Moments later, officers climbed the ladder back onto the dock carrying the small child. The crowd erupted into applause as the drenched girl was handed off and rushed into a woman’s arms.

The officers then returned to the water and emerged again with the child’s mother, who had jumped in without hesitation. That rescue also prompted applause from those watching.

Once back on the dock, the mother dropped to her knees and began crying as Carnival staff wrapped both her and the child in towels.

“They were pulled to safety. Very scary situation, but they were rescued quickly!” the TikTok creator wrote.

The user later said she was able to contact the family involved. According to the message shared, the family said they were “traumatized” by the incident but overall were doing “fine.”

“I’m so glad this all turned out ok, and everyone was brought to safety. She was a brave woman, but any mother would do the same!” the user added.

Carnival did not release additional details about how the child fell or whether any safety procedures will be reviewed following the incident.

The company confirmed that both the mother and daughter were medically evaluated and did not require further treatment.

The video of the rescue circulated widely on social media, drawing attention to the dangers posed by narrow gaps between docks and ships during port stops and the rapid response by cruise staff when emergencies occur.
