Florida Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds issued a call for Americans to remain steadfast in their convictions following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during an American Comeback Tour event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Appearing on Laura Ingraham’s program, Donalds emphasized the need for Americans not to be intimidated in the face of political violence.

“Laura, we can’t retreat from the crazy left. We simply can’t. If you do, you’re going to turn this country over to them. That’s not a provocative statement. That’s a statement of fact,” Donalds said.

He added that Kirk’s legacy must be honored through continued activism.

“We have a responsibility in this moment to stand for the very principles that founded this nation, which is, yes, speaking your mind very clearly, petitioning your government, organizing, doing all those things, fighting for this Constitution, fighting for the future of America. That is the legacy of Charlie Kirk,” Donalds stated.

Donalds stressed that Americans cannot let fear dominate daily life.

“We can’t have a situation where now we’re fearful of even going out to eat with our loved ones or being outside. Obviously, the President, all the security measures they need to take, but we cannot retreat from this insanity. No, they win,” he said.

The Congressman further underscored that the nation is worth preserving.

“This country, and Charlie lived his life for this, this country is worth saving. It’s the best thing ever created on the face of the planet Earth. We’re 250 years in, and if we stand firm, we have another 250 years in front of,” he said.

On social media, Donalds also shared a tribute to Kirk.

“.@charliekirk11 was not only an American political legend, but I am honored to have been able to call him my friend. He believed in the greatness of America, he believed in the power of conversation, and he fought to make our country a better place. Charlie, we will never forget you, we will carry on your legacy, and your impact will be felt for generations to come. God bless the Kirk family, and may Charlie rest in peace,” Donalds wrote.

The investigation into Kirk’s assassination remains ongoing. Authorities have confirmed the recovery of a rifle and other evidence, while the shooter has not yet been taken into custody.
