House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries lashed out at President Donald Trump this week after the President shared a spoof video online portraying Jeffries in a sombrero and mustache set to mariachi music, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
The incident came after Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer met with President Trump at the White House on Monday as negotiations over the government shutdown continued. Following the meeting, both Democrats spoke with reporters outside.
A parody version of their remarks was later circulated online, with altered captions and added visuals.

The video included Schumer delivering a reworked statement and Jeffries edited with the sombrero and mustache. President Trump reposted the clip on his social media account late Monday, adding to the growing tension between the White House and Democratic leaders.

At a press conference Tuesday, Jeffries condemned the video and accused Trump of hiding behind digital content rather than confronting him directly. “Mr. President, the next time you have something to say about me,” Jeffries said, as Democratic colleagues reacted in the background.
“Don’t cop out through a racist and fake AI video! When I’m back in the Oval Office, say it to my face!”

Jeffries also appeared on MSNBC later that evening, calling the video “disgusting” and claiming it crossed a line.
The spoof video sparked strong reactions online, with supporters of President Trump sharing the clip widely and critics accusing Jeffries of overreacting.

The parody came as Democrats sought to push back against Trump’s shutdown strategy, which has put pressure on Democratic leadership during ongoing negotiations.

President Trump has not directly responded to Jeffries’ remarks but has continued to highlight Democrats’ struggles in the standoff.
The White House has maintained that Democrats are refusing to compromise on spending measures, while Trump’s reposting of the edited video underscored his willingness to use humor and parody in the political fight.
As the shutdown talks move forward, the exchange between Trump and Jeffries adds another layer to the strained relationship between the President and Democratic congressional leadership.
