An unmarked Los Angeles Police Department vehicle has been stationed continuously outside the home of former Vice President Kamala Harris after President Donald Trump ended her extended Secret Service protection.
According to FOX 11, LAPD Metro officers have been pulled from other duties to provide security for Harris.
Former vice presidents typically receive Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office.
Harris’ coverage had been extended by former President Joe Biden until July 2026, but that extension was revoked by President Trump last week.

The move comes as Harris prepares to begin a book tour to promote her upcoming memoir, which will include 15 stops internationally.
Harris had faced elevated threat levels during her time as vice president, but The Associated Press reported that recent Secret Service assessments did not identify any credible threats against her.
In response to the shift in security responsibility, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass released a statement through her office criticizing the president’s decision.
"This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances and more. This puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the Governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles."

California Governor Gavin Newsom also commented, saying, "the safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses."
Newsom confirmed he is in discussions to provide protection for Harris through the California Highway Patrol.
Questions remain over who should bear the responsibility for Harris’ ongoing security.
Some taxpayers interviewed by FOX 11 expressed the view that Harris’ publisher should fund protection during her book tour, as she is no longer a candidate for public office.
Others argued she should remain entitled to government-funded protection despite leaving office.
When asked whether Harris’ publisher would provide security during her tour, no immediate response was given.
The cancellation of Harris’ protection is not an isolated decision.
Earlier this year, President Trump also ended extended Secret Service protection for former officials including former National Security Adviser John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Both men had been targeted by Iran but lost their coverage following Biden-era extensions.
In March, the president also ended Secret Service protection for Biden’s children, Hunter and Ashley Biden, which had likewise been granted by the former president.
Harris’ situation has highlighted broader questions about the balance between taxpayer-funded security and the precedent for extending protections to former officials and their families.
Former Vice President Mike Pence did not have his Secret Service protection extended past the standard six-month period.
For now, local resources are being redirected to provide Harris with security, with LAPD units assigned to monitor her residence around the clock.
