A man accused of opening fire on a driver who allegedly plowed his car into a crowd outside a Hollywood nightclub last month has been arrested, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, as reported by the New York Post.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Efrain Villalobos, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon at a residence in Redondo Beach. Police said Villalobos is facing felony charges in connection with the July 19 shooting of 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez.

Authorities had released images of the suspect last Friday, showing a man wearing a blue Dodgers jacket, a light blue jersey with the number five, and blue jeans. The LAPD asked the public to help identify the man seen in the surveillance footage.

Villalobos is accused of shooting Ramirez moments after Ramirez allegedly drove a Nissan Versa into a crowd gathered outside the Vermont Hollywood nightclub. Ramirez had previously been removed from the club for disruptive behavior.

After being escorted out, he allegedly returned in his vehicle and drove directly into the group of people standing outside the venue.

Seven individuals were critically injured in the crash, with several others sustaining less serious injuries.

Video from the scene showed bystanders pulling Ramirez from the vehicle and physically attacking him before Villalobos allegedly approached from across the street and shot Ramirez once before fleeing.

Ramirez was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the buttocks. He has since been released from the hospital but remains in custody on a $37 million bail.

According to CBS News, Ramirez is now facing a total of 74 charges, including 37 counts of attempted murder.

Police said Villalobos' case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges in the coming days. The LAPD has not yet released further details about Villalobos’ motive or whether he had any connection to those injured in the crash.

Ramirez remains behind bars at the Los Angeles County Jail as the investigation into both the vehicle attack and the subsequent shooting continues.
