The Monson Fire Department described the crash as “a horrible incident with the best possible outcome” in a public statement on Facebook.

Campground management echoed the sentiment, posting: “A horrible incident with the best possible outcome, no one was hurt.”

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene and used a crane to lift the partially submerged SUV from the water.

Images shared by the department show the vehicle suspended mid-air with its trunk and driver’s door ajar as it was raised from the pool and set down on solid ground.

The Sunsetview Farm Camping Area is a family-owned campground that has been in operation since 1970. The site, which sits on a former orchard and farm that has been in the same family for over 100 years, is located in the town of Monson in western Massachusetts.

While rare, similar incidents have occurred across the country in recent years. In March, a driver on Long Island crashed through a backyard fence and into a residential pool. That driver quickly retrieved his phone and jacket before fleeing the scene, according to local reports.

Another vehicle-related pool incident happened in Arizona on Halloween night in November 2024. In that case, a driver ended up submerged in a backyard pool. First responders broke the vehicle’s window and pulled the man to safety. He reportedly gave a thumbs up as he was rescued.

No further details have been released by Monson authorities regarding Sunday’s incident, but the investigation is ongoing.
