President Donald Trump expressed support for law enforcement on Tuesday following the fatal shooting at a Manhattan office building that left four people dead, including a New York City Police Department officer, as reported by Fox News.
In a statement posted to social media, Trump said he had been briefed on the incident and praised law enforcement for their efforts.
“I have been briefed on the tragic shooting that took place in Manhattan, a place that I know and love,” Trump wrote.
“I trust our Law Enforcement Agencies to get to the bottom of why this crazed lunatic committed such a senseless act of violence. My heart is with the families of the four people who were killed, including the NYPD Officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless the New York Police Department, and God Bless New York!”

Authorities identified the gunman as Shane Tamura, a resident of Las Vegas. Tamura died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after opening fire at 345 Park Avenue on Monday. According to police, four victims were killed, including NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, 36.
Officer Islam, a three-and-a-half-year veteran of the NYPD, was killed in the line of duty during the attack. He is survived by his pregnant wife and two children.
“He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch during a press briefing. “He died as he lived. A hero.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams ordered flags across the five boroughs to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Officer Islam and the other victims.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also commented on the shooting from the Senate floor, calling it a tragedy that struck close to home.
“My city, the greatest city on earth, was shattered when a gunman took the lives of four innocent New Yorkers in cold blood just four blocks from my office in midtown Manhattan,” Schumer said.
“It’s not just a tragedy. It’s a rupture in the soul of our city, our beloved city, and it requires that we mourn and honor all those we lost.”
Investigations into Tamura’s motive remain ongoing.
