A 30-year-old driver drove an SUV into a crowd gathered for a Filipino heritage festival in Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday night, resulting in at least nine fatalities and numerous injuries, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred during a Lapu Lapu Day festival block party.
Witnesses reported scenes of chaos as the black vehicle tore through the crowd, leaving injured and bloodied victims along the road amid broken debris.

Video footage from the aftermath captured horrified onlookers screaming, with one person shouting, “There’s a baby over there! There’s a baby under the truck.”
The driver, identified as a Vancouver resident, is currently in custody, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD). Authorities have not yet released a final count of the number of injured victims.

Vancouver police stated they are “confident” that the event was not related to terrorism. Interim Police Chief Steve Rai noted that the suspect was known to law enforcement “in certain circumstances,” and said that investigators are considering “everything on the table” regarding the driver’s motive.
Video recordings taken after the crash show a trail of destruction on a street lined with food trucks.

Dozens of victims were being tended to by both first responders and civilians.
In one video, an EMS unit is seen performing CPR on a victim, while other emergency personnel rushed to assist additional injured individuals.
Some victims were seen lying motionless and bloodied on the street.
The festival was held in honor of Lapu Lapu Day, a public holiday celebrating Filipino heritage.
Local outlet City News reported that the event had drawn a significant number of attendees before the crash occurred.
The Vancouver Police Department addressed the public on X, posting, “A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser shortly after 8 p.m. tonight.”

Canadian officials have begun issuing statements in response to the tragedy. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim wrote on X, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. We will work to provide more information as soon as we can. Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time.”

Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative Party candidate for Prime Minister, also responded, writing, “I am shocked by the horrific news emerging from Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day Festival tonight. Authorities have stated that the investigation remains active and have asked anyone with information or video footage to come forward as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

And now, if the Canadian politicians don’t release this murderer on bond (because he’s a poor,. misunderstood minority), maybe he will be tried and spend 6 months, or so, in jail. A jail at a local resort with room service, of course.
