Burr appeared on the red carpet at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor ceremony. While speaking with press outlets, Burr was asked about controversial remarks he made during interviews, including a recent appearance on ABC’s The View.

Rather than responding directly, Burr dismissed the questions and challenged the reporters asking them.

“You need to get your balls back, that’s not my job. I’m just a dancing clown,” Burr said, visibly frustrated. He also described it as “ridiculous” that he was being questioned about current events.

The remarks stood in contrast to Burr’s earlier media appearances, where he offered strong opinions on public figures and political issues. In particular, during The View, Burr took aim at Elon Musk and voiced support for Luigi Mangione, who has faced allegations of murder.

Burr’s positions sparked debate, especially given his past criticism of others who make inflammatory political comparisons.

Despite his history of confronting social topics in his comedy, Burr pushed back hard when asked to elaborate on or defend his statements.

In doing so, he echoed a rhetorical tactic often associated with former Daily Show host Jon Stewart—alternating between political commentary and comedic deflection.

Stewart frequently responded to pushback by claiming he was “just a comedian,” a sentiment Burr appeared to echo on the red carpet.

Burr’s exchange with reporters suggested frustration with being held accountable for the political stances he shared during recent interviews.

In more controlled media environments, such as podcasts and daytime television, Burr voiced opinions on topics like free speech, media narratives, and cultural issues. However, when asked in a more public setting to address those same opinions, his tone shifted.
