Payton McNabb, a former high school volleyball player who suffered severe injuries after competing against a transgender athlete, criticized congressional Democrats for ignoring her during President Donald Trump’s address on Tuesday evening.
McNabb, who has since become an advocate for protecting women’s sports, was present in the gallery as Trump acknowledged her from the podium.
Despite her story and the recognition from the president, Democrats refused to applaud, a response McNabb described as “heartbreaking.”
“Last night, just overall, the Democrat Party was so disrespectful,” McNabb said during an interview on Fox News.

“And they didn’t stand up for any of the guests, they didn’t stand up for DJ Daniel, who is the young boy who survived brain cancer, they didn’t stand up for Laken Riley’s family, whose daughter literally suffered a traumatic death that should have never happened, and every other guest that was there had some sort of powerful story, and they didn’t clap for any of that.”
McNabb, who suffered traumatic physical and mental injuries from her experience competing against a transgender opponent, has been vocal about the dangers of allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports.
She expressed disappointment that Democrats refused to acknowledge the impact of her story.
“So it was heartbreaking, and honestly I wish I could say I was surprised, but I’m not,” she added.

Democrats have consistently opposed legislative efforts aimed at protecting female athletes from competing against biological males.
McNabb pointed to this ongoing resistance as proof that they are unwilling to stand up for women’s rights in sports.
“The Democrat Party failed women. They don’t care,” she stated.
“Even with daughters of their own, the fact that they did not get this bill through is just completely heartbreaking. I’m not the only story; there are so many female athletes who have shared their story, and it’s not like they don’t know. It’s insane that this is the hill they’re willing to die on.”
McNabb further criticized Democrats for their overall behavior during Trump’s address, arguing that their refusal to acknowledge guests with impactful stories was a sign of political partisanship overriding basic decency.
“They were embarrassing to their party and to the country the way they acted with just utter disrespect all around,” she said.
“It was unbelievable. This is the type of thing that I’m going to remember for the rest of my life.”
Her comments come amid continued debate over transgender participation in women’s sports, an issue that has sparked legislative battles at both the state and federal levels.
While some Republican-led states have passed laws prohibiting biological males from competing in female sports, Democrat-led states have opposed such measures.
McNabb remains determined to advocate for policies that protect women’s athletics, even as opposition from Democratic lawmakers continues.
