Sen. JD Vance revealed that Mexico has agreed to deploy 10,000 additional troops to its northern border following discussions between President Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans

The decision, prompted by Trump’s tariff threat, aims to enhance border security and crack down on drug cartels.

Vance discussed the development, highlighting how the move counters claims from the left that tariffs would negatively impact Americans.

“Now, actually, I was in the air. I talked to the President very briefly about this. He spoke with the President of Mexico this morning, and the President of Mexico committed to putting 10,000 additional Mexican troops on that southern border, our southern border, of course, the Mexicans’ northern border, to take law enforcement more seriously, to go after those Mexican drug cartels a little bit more aggressively,” Vance stated.

Vance criticized left-wing opposition to the tariff strategy, arguing that the pressure applied by Trump has led to stronger border enforcement measures that ultimately benefit American citizens.

“So for literally three days, I heard the far left in this country say that these tariffs would make Americans’ lives worse off,” Vance said.

“And what actually happened is the Mexican government was so afraid of the tariffs that they actually are taking their border enforcement and their anti-cartel activity more seriously.”

He added, “That is not a pathway to making Americans worse off. That’s a pathway to making Americans better off now.”

Trump’s decision to use tariffs as leverage to address border security has been a key component of his strategy to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

The agreement with Mexico follows his recent announcement of a 10% tariff on Chinese goods and a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada.

With Mexico now committing additional military resources to border enforcement, the administration sees this as a direct victory for its approach.

Officials argue that increased pressure on Mexican authorities will lead to better control over illegal crossings and a more aggressive stance against cartel operations.

As the situation develops, both U.S. and Mexican officials are expected to coordinate on the deployment of troops and implementation of enhanced border security measures.
