Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe was forcibly removed from a Huntington Beach city council meeting on Tuesday after delivering an outburst against President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.

Kluwe, who also played college football at UCLA, was protesting a MAGA plaque that had been installed near the city’s local library.

During his remarks, Kluwe made a series of claims about what he believes the MAGA movement represents before police intervened and took him into custody.

Addressing the city council, Kluwe began his comments by stating, “I’m gonna take my time to say what MAGA has stood for these past three weeks.”

He then launched into a list of accusations against the movement and its policies.

“MAGA stands for trying to erase trans people from existence. MAGA stands for resegregation and racism. MAGA stands for censorship and book bans. MAGA stands for firing air traffic controllers while planes are crashing. MAGA stands for firing the people overseeing our nuclear arsenal.”

Continuing his speech, Kluwe made further claims regarding veterans and education funding.

“MAGA stands for firing military veterans and those serving them at the VA, including canceling research on veteran suicide. MAGA stands for cutting funds for education, including for disabled children. MAGA is profoundly corrupt, unmistakably anti-democracy, and most importantly, MAGA is explicitly a Nazi movement.”

He concluded by drawing a comparison between Trump supporters and Nazi symbolism.

“You may have replaced a swastika with a red hat, but that is what it is,” he said.

Immediately afterward, Kluwe declared, “I will now engage in the time-honored American tradition of peaceful civil disobedience.” However, his demonstration was short-lived as police approached him and placed him in handcuffs.

Authorities charged Kluwe with disrupting an assembly, a charge typically applied when an individual interrupts or obstructs a public meeting.

Kluwe, who has been outspoken on political and social issues since his NFL career ended, has not issued any public statements regarding his removal or the charges filed against him.

The Huntington Beach city council has not commented on whether the MAGA plaque in question will remain in place or if further discussions on its status will be scheduled.
