A viral video of Selena Gomez sobbing over the Trump administration’s nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration continues to draw widespread attention, even after the singer and actress quickly deleted it.

Now, Dr. Phil McGraw, the longtime daytime TV host, is weighing in, advising Gomez to reconsider her emotional response after witnessing firsthand the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Gomez, known for her role in Only Murders in the Building, posted a tearful video in which she accused President Donald Trump of “attacking” her “people,” including “the children.”

While some praised her for speaking out, others criticized her reaction as overly emotional and detached from reality.

Dr. Phil, who recently embedded with ICE agents in Chicago, saw the enforcement actions firsthand and questioned whether Gomez truly understood who was being arrested in these operations.

“I certainly don’t think she was crying for these individuals,” McGraw told the Daily Mail. “She seemed to me to be very sincere in her empathy for these individuals, but I’m not sure who she was identifying with. I don’t think she would relate to the people that were taken down in this operation.”

According to McGraw, the ICE agents he observed were specifically targeting individuals with serious criminal records.

“I was present when they read off the list of crimes these individuals had committed. The charges included murder, child sex crimes, child rape, and aggravated assault,” he said.

McGraw added that the individuals being detained posed a danger not just to American citizens, but also to the immigrant communities where they often operate.

“They prey upon their own,” he stated. “So, you know, I would suspect that Selena’s empathy is certainly not for the people that [former ICE director] Mr. Holman is going after.”

McGraw also pushed back against media portrayals of ICE, dismissing claims that federal agents were indiscriminately rounding up undocumented individuals.

“They’re not targeting farms or agricultural environments. They’re not going into businesses and checking people’s immigration status,” McGraw explained.

He described how ICE agents methodically identified and arrested individuals with extensive criminal records.

“I asked all the hard questions. I asked straight up, ‘Are you sweeping neighborhoods where you believe there are concentrations of illegal aliens?’ and they said, ‘absolutely not.’”

McGraw also debunked accusations made by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, who claimed ICE agents were entering elementary schools to search for undocumented children.

“I said, ‘Are you going to schools and taking people and students out of schools?’ They said, ‘absolutely not.’ These agents are after the bad guys… There’s been so much misinformation out there.”

The Trump administration has ramped up nationwide ICE enforcement operations, prioritizing the removal of individuals with violent criminal histories.

Federal officials have emphasized that these efforts target criminals, not law-abiding immigrants.

McGraw concluded his remarks by praising the professionalism of ICE agents, stating that the level of investigative work involved in these raids was extensive and methodical.

“I was very impressed at the professionalism of all of this,” he said.

As the debate over immigration enforcement continues, public figures like Gomez and McGraw offer sharply contrasting perspectives on the impact of the administration’s policies.

While some celebrities express emotional opposition, others—like McGraw—are urging Americans to take a closer look at the facts.
