Singer Billie Eilish became the latest performer to be hit by an object thrown from the audience during a live concert.

The 22-year-old artist was performing at Glendale, Arizona’s Desert Diamond Arena on Friday night when she was struck in the face by a necklace apparently thrown by an audience member.

The incident occurred while Eilish was singing her song “What Was I Made For?” Video footage shared on social media shows Eilish sitting cross-legged on the stage when the necklace hit her.

She flinched briefly and paused as the crowd reacted with gasps.

Without stopping her performance, Eilish picked up the necklace and tossed it offstage before continuing to sing.

Fans quickly condemned the act on social media, praising Eilish for her professionalism in handling the situation. Comments included:

Eilish has previously spoken about fans throwing objects on stage, a troubling trend that has gained attention in recent years.

At the Barbie world premiere in July 2023, she told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’ve been getting hit on stage with things for, like, literally six years. I don’t know why this is new. People just get excited, and it can be dangerous.”

Eilish described the experience as “infuriating” and said she had mixed feelings about it. “It blows when you’re up there. But you know it’s out of love, and they’re just trying to give you something. You’re in a vulnerable position, but I’ve been getting hit with stuff for years,” she said.

Eilish is not alone in facing such incidents.

In 2022, Harry Styles was struck in the groin by a bottle during a performance.

Last year, Cardi B had a drink thrown at her during a concert in Las Vegas, and Bebe Rexha was hit by a cellphone at a New York City show, resulting in an injury.

Adele also addressed the trend during her Weekends with Adele residency at the Colosseum in Las Vegas.

Speaking to the audience, she said: “Have you noticed how people are forgetting f–king show etiquette at the moment? People are throwing s–t onstage. Have you seen that? I f–king dare you — I dare you throw something at me. I’ll f–king kill you.” She added, “Stop throwing things at the artist … These people have lost it.”

The rise in incidents has sparked conversations about concert etiquette and the safety of performers during live shows.

While many fans view throwing items as a gesture of affection or excitement, artists and security professionals have warned about the risks such actions pose.
